How to Keep Cats Out of a Motion Detector Sprayer

Having pets and a clean smelling home don't always go hand in hand, especially if your cat is inadvertently more on the receiving end of your cleaning efforts than your home. Motion detector sprays work wonders for freshening up your home, but keeping your cat out of the line of fire is crucial for their own safety and for your scenting efforts to pay off. You can employ some quick fixes and some longer term behavioral training tactics to keep your cat out of the way of these sprays.

Instructions

    • 1

Select an area in your home where you can move your motion detector sprayer to a higher elevation. You will want a spot that will still allow you to activate the detector, but will be too high for your cat to reach.

    • 2

Nail the motion detector sprayer to the higher elevation spot with a two inch nail, or affix the sprayer to the wall with heavy duty, double-stick adhesive tape.

Use a spray bottle with water to gently mist your cat any time he or she is near the motion detector sprayer if it is still an issue, creating an aversion for visiting this spot in the home.
