How to Find a Lost Kitten

A young kitten on its own can worry any pet owner. However, despite their vulnerability, lost kittens do have some things working for them that can help them be found more quickly than an adult. Kittens tend to stay closer to home and people tend to be more concerned about a kitten found alone and will often pick it up. This makes connecting with your community very important in finding a lost kitten, as someone may have taken it in.

Visit your local animal shelters, SPCAs and Humane Societies. All of these agencies keep a lost pet binder or bulletin board where you can put your kitten's photo and your contact information. Also, while there look at all the kittens to see if yours has been brought in.

    • 2

Post fliers around the neighborhood with a photo and your contact information. Knock on your neighbor's doors and hand them a flier. Kittens don't tend to travel as older cats do and your nearest neighbors will be the most likely to have seen your kitten.

    • 3

Post a missing kitten post on Craigslist.com and eBayClassifieds.com. These are highly trafficked sites with pet sections where you can post missing pet information.

    • 4

Contact any local cat rescue organizations in your area. These are independent rescues that take in cats and kittens from the community. Your local animal shelter will probably have a list for you to contact.

Look around your neighborhood for your kitten, starting close to home. Bring an open can of wet kitten food or tuna fish with you for your kitten to smell. Call your kitten's name and then stop to listen for a mew in response. Look under low-hanging bushes and other places low to the ground where he can hide. Kittens tend to hide low to the ground.
