How to Get Cat Urine Out of Concrete Floors

Cat urine is incredibly tough to completely remove from concrete floors, since concrete floors are very porous. The best cure for errant cat urine is prevention. Keep your cat's litter box away from its food and water bowls, clean the litter box daily, use clumping litter, or add additional litter boxes if you have multiple cats. If your cat continues to inappropriately eliminate after you make those changes, take your pet to a veterinarian; sometimes medical issues such as urinary tract infections cause cats to associate pain with using the litter box.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch on a black light to reveal urine stained areas.

    • 2

Mix 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar in your mop bucket. Saturate your mop thoroughly with the solution, and then mop the stains. This should clean any urine off the concrete floor's surface. Allow your floors to dry before proceeding.

    • 3

Spray the stained areas with enzymatic cleaner, spraying heavily and allowing the liquid cleaner to thoroughly and deeply saturate the concrete. Enzymatic cleaners are available at most pet stores and your veterinarian's office.

    • 4

Place a tarp on top of the sprayed areas, using multiple tarps if necessary. This keeps the enzymatic cleaner from evaporating too quickly.

    • 5

Repeat applications of enzymatic cleaner as necessary to completely remove the cat urine from the concrete floors.
