How to Wrap a Window Sill in Aluminum

Aluminum foil has a slick texture and makes a crunching sound that keeps most cats from staying on the window sill after an initial visit or two. Cats tend to enjoy the light and warmth of the sun's rays and many jump up on the window sill to soak them in. The cat may accidentally knock valuable items off the sill, breaking them. Wrap a window sill in aluminum and solve this minor cat issue, using a few common household items.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull out and cut off a sheet of aluminum foil that starts 2 inches in on underside of the left end of the window sill, covers the sill and ends 2 inches in on the right end of the window sill. Heavy-duty aluminum foil is much easier to pull out to the desired length without tearing. Heavy-duty aluminum foil is available in 18-inch-wide varieties to cover window sills wider than a foot.

    • 2

Press the aluminum foil onto the window sill with the shiniest side facing up to form it to all the corners and edges. Trim away excess aluminum foil that is protruding from where the underside of the window sill meets the wall. Trimming the aluminum neatly gives the wrap job a cleaner look.

    • 3

Slide off the aluminum foil form and apply double-sided tape in 3-inch strips placed 3 inches apart along the inner edges of the form. Add a few 6-inch strips of double-sided tape placed 6 inches apart where the inside of the form will contact the top surface of the window sill.

    • 4

Place the prepared aluminum foil form back onto the window sill and press along all the areas with double-sided tape. Slide your hands all over the aluminum to press it onto the sill.
