Take time to walk over your home and find problem areas. Have a pen and paper with you and write down places you notice odor or stains. Identifying locations of odors will help in eliminating them properly.

    • 2

Take your list and start going down it as you clean. Use Nature's Miracle cleaner to clean all the areas on your list according to the directions on the bottle. Let it dry and wait 24 hours before walking around and doing another sniff test. If you still smell odors in 24 hours, take white vinegar and clean the odorous area by pouring it onto the spot and blotting it up with a dry wash cloth. Then sprinkle the spot with baking soda and let it stand for another 24 hours before vacuuming it up.

    • 3

Take a steam cleaner that you have either purchased or rented, and clean all of the carpeted flooring in your home according to the directions on the machine and carpet shampoo. You should repeat the process until the water being taken into the vacuum receptacle runs clear. Let the carpets dry for 24 to 48 hours.

Rub the shampoo gently all over the cat, being careful to avoid the eyes and nose. Take the cat and towel dry it carefully. You may also blow dry the cat using a hair dryer on it's coolest setting. Brush the cat to remove any dead undercoat or hairs and finish with a cat cologne if desired.

Take a clean litter pan and fill it with Yesterday's News brand litter. This litter is made from recycled newspaper and does not have dust that can get into the cat's hair and cause body odor to come back. It will also keep litter box odors to a minimum and is far more absorbent than traditional clay litters. Make sure to place a litter mat or rug in front of the litter box to catch any litter bits before they get tracked around the house.
