How to Clean Concrete Floors That Have Cat Urine

A concrete floor is porous and can easily absorb liquids, leading to stains. Cat-urine stains are unsightly on concrete, but they also emit a distinct, unpleasant odor. Any pet owner knows that sometimes accidents happen, but the quicker they're dealt with, the better. If you have a concrete floor stained by cat urine, you can reduce the odor and clean up the mess with a solution you can make at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up as much of the cat urine as possible with an absorbent cloth or paper towels.

    • 2

Pour 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 tsp. of liquid soap into a medium-size, nonmetal bowl.

    • 3

Stir the ingredients with a long-handled, nonmetal spoon. The baking soda and hydrogen peroxide will froth as they react.

    • 4

Place a funnel in the opening of a bottle that has a sprayer attachment. Pour the cleaning mixture into the bottle and replace the sprayer attachment.

    • 5

Spray the concrete with the cleaning mixture, saturating the area.

    • 6

Turn on a portable electric fan or a ceiling fan to help dry the saturated area.

    • 7

Allow 48 to 72 hours before reapplying the mixture to the stain. Repeat the process up to three times.
