Instructions
Ask someone you know who owns a ragdoll where she got it. If you ask a fellow ragdoll aficionado where she purchased her cat, she will likely give you an opinion of the breeder, store or shelter. It is always best to know where and who you are getting your ragdoll from to prevent obtaining a sick or neglected cat.
Call your veterinarian for recommendations on a ragdoll breeder. Often, breeders will bring their breeding cats and kittens to the veterinarian for treatment. Many create a relationship with the vets and staff because they frequently come in. The staff or doctor can give you a breeder's contact information and perhaps an opinion on how the cats and kittens are cared for.
Contact your local animal control or shelter for ragdoll rescues. While most rescues do not typically have kittens on-hand, they will likely have adults. Most rescues require an extensive adoption process, in which vet records from your other or prior animals are obtained, thorough interviews are performed and, sometimes, rescue volunteers will inspect your home.
Contact the Ragdoll Fanciers Club International (see resources) for a list of ragdoll breeders. The club has information on breeders in just about every state, along with international breeders.
Visit a ragdoll cat show. Breeders often show their ragdolls and many handle the cats as well. Speak to other audience members about where they obtained their ragdolls, or talk to a handler or breeder directly.
How to Find Ragdoll Cats in My Area
If you have your heart set on obtaining a specific breed of cat, it can sometimes be quite challenging to find it in your area. It's not guaranteed that every pet store or shelter will have that breed. Ragdoll cats are extremely docile and pleasant and, while popular, they are not always readily available. Therefore, it is best to know where to look and who to contact when attempting to purchase or adopt a ragdoll.
