How to Get Rid of Cat Spray Smell on Bushes

To effectively deal with the nuisance of cat spray smell on bushes, you must both remove the smell and prevent future incidents of spraying. Cats spray areas to mark their territory and attract mates. The spray leaves a noticeable smell and if left untreated will attract other cats to the area to spray more urine. Un-neutered male cats are the most common culprits of spraying but female cats can spray areas as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Saturate the bush thoroughly with water. Use a garden hose and completely clean the bush of any cat urine smell.

    • 2

Fill a spray bottle with a natural enzyme-based product designed to remove pet urine smell. Enzyme-based products are available both online and at pet supply stores.

    • 3

Spray the enzyme-based product onto the bush. Cover as much of the bush as possible. Pour some of the product around the base of the bush.

    • 4

Repeat this process until the smell is gone.

    • 5

Discourage cats from re-spraying the area by adding natural deterrents to the environment. Sprinkle coffee grounds, cayenne pepper or citrus fruit peels around the base of the bush. Place drops of lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus or citronella oil around the bush.

    • 6

Cover the ground around the bush with stones or pine cones. This will make the area uncomfortable for the cats to stand and spray.
