How to Remove Serious Lint & Cat Hair From Fleece

Fleece is a soft and cuddly fabric, which makes it a popular choice for blankets. Unfortunately, if you have a cat, chances are you will find it curled up enjoying the blanket. Once your cat walks away, there will probably a reminder of its visit, in the form of cat hair. Cat hair sticks easily to fleece and is difficult to remove. It takes some dedicated cleaning, but it is possible to restore your fleece blanket to like-new condition.

Instructions

Carry the blanket outside and shake it hard. This will remove much of the loose hair and let you get started cleaning the blanket. If the weather is breezy, try hanging the blanket outside for a day or so to remove as much loose hair as possible.

    • 2

Use a fabric cleaning brush or adhesive roller on the blanket. Start at one corner and work your way across the blanket, removing as much hair as possible. You will have to clean the fabric brush or refresh the sticky roller frequently.

    • 3

Dampen your hand, and rub it over the surface of the blanket to get off additional hair.

    • 4

Toss the blanket in the washer, once you have removed all the loose hair possible. After washing, take it outside and shake it again to remove any hair loosened in the washer.

    • 5

Dry with extra dryer sheets. Fabric softener sheets will help reduce the static in the fleece blanket, which is one of the reasons cat hair sticks to the material so easily.
