Instructions
Cover Cat Urine Damage
Dry the spot on which the cat has urinated. Do this as soon as possible, using a dry paper towel or an absorbent cloth. Blotting, rather than rubbing, may help prevent spreading the urine further.
Use an odor-killing product to banish the odor of cat urine. It can be very difficult to get rid of this smell, especially if the cat has sprayed repeatedly and over a long period of time. You may need to repeat applications of the product you choose. Purchase a product that neutralizes cat urine odors and doesn't just cover them up. You may find one at a home repair store or a pet store.
Cover the urine stain with a rug, table or piece of furniture if you want a quick fix.
Remove soiled carpet and the padding beneath it. Clean the carpet and replace the carpet padding where it has become soiled with cat urine.
Cut a heavily soiled patch out of your carpet if you do not think you can clean it and if you don't want to replace it all the carpet in the room. Replace the cut out area with a remnant carpet.
Apply a sealant to floors that have been soiled with cat urine. This can create a moisture barrier, preventing further damage. Select one that includes a urine odor neutralizer.
Repaint walls that have been sprayed and stained with cat urine.
Install new flooring over the urine-damaged floor. This will cover up the damage.
Sand hardwood floors and paint over them with a darker stain to cover up urine damage.
Sand and paint damaged baseboards, sealing them with a varnish or clear sealant product.
Clean and deodorize a spot of cat urine on a sofa or other upholstered furniture using a mixture of 1/2 cup of white vinegar combined with 1 qt. of water. Allow it to air dry. Cover a visible stain with a slipcover.
