How to Get Cat Urine Smell Out of Plastic Playhouse

Cat urine is one of the more difficult odors to remove. Cats typically do not urinate outside their litter box unless they are marking their territory; suffering from stress or a urinary tract disorder; or are having issues with the cleanliness or appearance of their litter box. In a situation where an outdoor or stray cat urinates on a plastic playhouse, it is important to clean the area immediately and remove the odor. This is not only for the safety of the children who play in the house, but also to keep other animals from smelling the urine and marking their territory.

Instructions

  1. Cleaning

    • 1

Fill a small bucket with warm, soapy water. Wipe off the urine with paper towels or a rag soaked in the soapy water.

    • 2

Rinse the plastic play equipment off with a garden hose.

    • 3

Soak a sponge in white vinegar, then wipe the entire structure down. Let it air dry. For persistent odor, continue to Section 2.

    Removing Persistent Odors

    • 4

Choose an enzyme-based cleaning product made specifically for pet urine, blood and feces cleanup. Examples of these are Out!, Simple Solution or Urine Gone. These products usually can be found at pet supply stores or from your veterinarian.

    • 5

Clean the entire play structure with the cleaner. All cleaners are different, so make sure to follow the instructions carefully when cleaning.

    • 6

Treat the plastic play equipment until the odor disappears. Rather than camouflaging the smell, the enzymes in the cleaner will chemically break down the urine. Let the plastic playhouse dry.

    • 7

Rinse the entire structure with the garden hose to remove the cleaning product residue. Use soapy water if necessary.
