How to Get Rid of Cat Odors From a Basement Floor

Having cat odors on a basement floor is very unpleasant and is unhealthy for you. The reason for the odors to be lingering is because the cats urine was soaked into the pours of the cement floor. The horrible odor will not leave until you clean the floor really well. There is a certain way you can clean the basement floor so this smell leaves for good. You will be much happier going in the basement again and not having that smell linger around.

Pour the 12 8 oz. bottles of hydrogen peroxide in a mop bucket. You will need a lot of hydrogen peroxide to kill the odor and bacteria on your basement floor. If you're cleaning a really huge room, you will need to double or triple the amount of hydrogen peroxide being used to get rid of the cat odors.

Use the mop to create large puddles of hydrogen peroxide on the basement floor. This allows the hydrogen peroxide to soak deep into the pores of the cement and destroy odors and bacteria.

    • 3

Mop in circular motions on the floor for about 15 minutes. Make sure to mop all the areas where the cat odors are. You can check to see if you miss any spots with a black light. Urine stains should appear under a black light.

Pour the rest of the hydrogen peroxide on the floor and let it soak there for an hour. If the hydrogen peroxide is still there after an hour, mop up the excess. Let the floor air dry. If you need it to dry faster, use a fan you have around the house.

Repeat these steps if the odor is still there. Many people have tried this method and it does work. You may just need to repeat it a couple times for best results.
