Easy Cat Crafts

Children love animals. Cats are among their favorites because they are so soft to the touch. If you are a teacher or parent and you want to help your preschooler create his own cat craft, you will need a project that is on the easy side. Younger children can become frustrated if a project is too hard for them to complete.
  1. Cat Place Mat

    • Most families use place mats to place their dishes on at meal time. Why not do the same for your cat. Give your child a piece of white construction paper. Then provide her with enough letter stickers to spell out your cat's name in the middle of the place mat. If you don't have letter stickers, you can just draw the letters in with some crayons or markers. Now use your imagination to draw things your cat likes all around the place mat. You may want to draw a ball or yarn, a mouse or a scratching post. To finish off the place mat, locate a picture of your cat. Cut it out and glue it to the place mat. Laminate or cover the place mat with a piece of contact paper and then place it under your cat's food and water dishes.

    Cat Face

    • A cat face is very easy to construct if you have a paper plate. Begin by taking some black construction paper and cutting three triangles from it. The first triangle can be pasted in the middle of the paper plate as the cat's nose. The other two should be coming out of the top of the paper plate to represent the cat's ears. Cut two ovals out of blue, green or brown construction paper to serve as the cat's eyes. Just paste them on above the nose. Use a marker to draw in the mouth and to give the eyes some pupils. Locate three pipe cleaners and cut them in half. Glue three to each side of the cat's face for its whiskers. Wait for the glue to dry before handling.

Tip: Paint the paper plate first if you don't want a white cat.

    Cat Puppet

    • Little children can pretend to be cats after creating this puppet. Begin by taking a brown paper lunch bag and setting it in front of you with the opening at the bottom. Take the flap in the front and fold back the bottom two corners. Place a pom-pom at the tip that you just created to become the cat's nose. Glue two google eyes (that can be purchased from craft stores) to the top of the flap. Then cut out two triangles from some construction paper to glue to the top back of the flap to create two cat ears. The pointy end should face up. Then cut three pipe cleaners in half and glue three pieces to each side of the cat's nose. These are the cat's whiskers. Finish off by cutting two paws out of a piece of construction paper. Tape them to the sides of the paper lunch bag. When the glue drys, let your child practice being a cat.
