How to Remove Cat Pee From Wood

Anyone who has ever lived with a cat already knows how potent cat urine can be. It's unpleasant in the litter box, but when it's outside of the box, it is much worse. Cat urine odor has a tendency to linger, and if it gets onto a wood surface, it can seep in and create problems long after you've cleaned it up. Fortunately, there is an easy method for cleaning up this mess.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot up the excess urine with paper towels and place them into a plastic bag to be disposed of immediately. It's important to get the smell out of the house as quickly as possible.

    • 2

Pour hydrogen peroxide onto the area and place a clean cloth soaked in hydrogen peroxide on top of the affected area.

    • 3

Cover the cloth with plastic wrap and place something on top of it to weight it down, such as a heavy book.

    • 4

Allow the cloth to sit on the area for at least an hour before checking on it. The cloth will draw the urine out of the wood and begin to discolor. As the cloth becomes discolored, soak a new cloth in hydrogen peroxide and swap it out. Repeat the process until no more urine is coming out of the wood.

    • 5

Wipe the area dry of any excess moisture and cover it with baking soda to help draw moisture out of the wood and absorb any residual odors.

    • 6

Allow the baking soda to sit on the area for 2 or 3 hours before vacuuming or sweeping it up.
