Instructions

    • 1

Choose a window for the cat box. Ideally, find a window that gives you and your cat easy access to the view outside.

    • 2

Measure the space between the sides of the window frame. The cat box should be 6 inches shorter and 1/2 inch narrower than the window frame.

    • 3

Cut the plywood 1/2 inch shorter than the width of the window frame. Cut two two-by-fours to 5 inches less than the width of the window. Cut a one-by-four the exact width of the window. Cut 2 2-by-4s to the desired height of the cat window box. Cut 2 2-by-4s 11 inches less than the length of the base of the window box.

    • 4

Screw the two vertical pieces together at the two corners of one end of the base. Measure 6 inches from the opposite end of the base and attach the two vertical pieces of wood.

    • 5

Use the other two pieces of wood to attach two pairs of vertical struts with the 4-inch screws. One of the 2x4s should be used to attach the frame on the outside of the base. Use the last strut to finish the inside of the box. You should have a cube-like structure mounting the base.

    • 6

Place the smaller piece of wood flat against the top of the inside of the box, overlapping the top. The smaller piece will hold the window box in place and, when flat against the 2x4 strut, it should rest 1.5 inches above the base of the box.

Cover the box from one side to the other with wire mesh using the stapler, covering the outside end in a separate sheet of mesh.
