Instructions

    • 1

Empty out your litter box completely. Pour all of the cat litter in to a trash bag and tie it shut. Take the trash bag outside immediately and place it in a trash can with a lid. This will contain the odor until trash day.

    • 2

Clean the litter box with dish soap and hot water. Add two cap fulls of bleach to the dish soap and water. This will kill any odor causing germs. You may want to use an old rag to clean the cat box and not a dish cloth.

    • 3

Fill your cat's litter box half way up with an odor-controlling litter, such as Tidy Cats Immediate Odor Control. This cat litter is no more expensive than most other brands, and is distinct in that it controls the odor your cat makes when it poops right away.

    • 4

Wash the walls and floors surrounding the area where you keep your cat box. Do this with the leftover water that contained the dish soap and the bleach. Use an old rag.

    • 5

Spray the air around the litter box with a product such as Oust Air Sanitizer. This product kills the bacteria that cause bad odors.

    • 6

Keep the poop smell away by placing an Air Wick FreshMatic Mini Automatic Spray near the cat box. It will automatically spray a fresh scent in to the air, keeping the air from spreading any bad odors.
