Instructions

    • 1

Attach the string to the toy. You need to tie the string around the toy securely so that it will remain attached when pulled.

    • 2

Attach the toy to the top of the crate. You can use scotch tape or sticky tack to do this. It is important that that the toy can be pulled off of the crate but requires a tug to do so.

    • 3

Place the crate where you want to trap the cat. Turn the crate upside down and position the end of the string that is not connected to the toy so that it comes out of the crate.

    • 4

Prop one end of the crate up with the pencil or other object. If you use another object, it must be very small so that the crate is held up by only a minimal point of connection with the object. Take the end of the string coming out from under the box and position it between the crate and the end of the pencil. Make sure that the string is snug from the toy to the pencil.

    • 5

Cut excess string. You want to make sure that the string supports the weight of the crate before transferring it to the pencil, but you do not want more than an inch of extra string hanging out beyond the pencil.

    • 6

Wait for the cat to come and get the toy. As the cat bats and pulls at the toy, it will cause the string to pull. As the string pulls, the pencil will become unsteady and fall, causing the crate to come down and trap the cat.
