Instructions

    • 1

Get a 3-foot-by-12-inch pre-pack shelf kit from your local home improvement store. This is a wire shelf that comes with all the hardware you need to install it. If your home improvement store doesn't carry foam, you can get it at a craft store or a fabric store. You can use special material that matches your decor if you want or just use a bath towel in the color of your decor.

Place some dabs of super glue on the top of the wire on the shelf. Put the foam on top and press into the glue. Let it dry. Super glue usually dries within minutes.

Put your towel over the foam, and wrap it around to under the shelf to measure. Mark on the towel where the line would be between the first and second wires. One side of your towel will be flush against the end of the shelf, and the other end will hang over. From the flush side out 12 inches, stick on your Velcro. Stick the other part of the Velcro on the foam between the first and second wire. Tack the ends with a needle and thread to make it stronger.

Attach the hardware for the shelf to your wall just under the window sill. Follow the manufacturers directions for putting the shelf unit together. Place your shelf on the hardware, and stick the towel on with the Velcro. Now you have a window seat for your cat. You can pull off the towel and launder it when it gets dirty, and then stick it right back on once it's clean.
