Instructions

    • 1

Scoop the poop every day. Either flush it down the toilet (cat poop is always flushable, some litter brands are and some are not) or put it in an airtight bag, seal the bag and drop it in the trash. There are special devices like the Litter Locker that make sealing and storing the poop away until trash day very easy.

    • 2

Change the cat litter once a week, no matter what the label on the bag says. You might be able to vary this frequency a bit but aim for once a week.

    • 3

Keep at least 2 to 3 inches of litter in the litterbox at all times. This helps make sure that there will be plenty of litter on hand to absorb what your cat leaves behind.

    • 4

Scrub the litterbox with dish soap, vinegar, or any other non-toxic cleaning substance every time you change the litter.

    • 5

Try adding extra litterboxes. You should have at least one per cat and many experts recommending having another extra. This spreads out the "deposits" and gives you a better chance of getting to them each day before they really set up a stink.

    • 6

Put a cover over your cat's litterbox to help control the spread of the odor.

    • 7

Mix baking soda in with the litter to help absorb bad smells.
