Instructions
Keep the litter box clean. This is the thing that will make an entire house smell bad. Pick a litter that is made of predominately natural clay. This will help you to combat the cat odor because it absorbs odors. Once a week, empty out the litter and scrub it out using a towel and lemon juice. Let it dry completely before you put more litter in.
Clean your floors with vinegar. You can use one cup of vinegar in the water for a carpet shampooer. Mix one cup vinegar with one gallon of hot water to mop. On special flooring such as hard wood, you need to check the directions on the floor sealant. While the vinegar dries, it will stink but, vinegar is a natural odor remover. This will also help to remove hormones that make a cat urinate in certain spots around the house.
Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet every couple of days between shampoos. Leave it on the carpet all day while you are out or at work. Vacuum it up when you get home.
Mix one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with one cup of water. Dampen a towel with this mixture to clean up cat urine that is outside of the litter box. If the urine is on a colored carpet, test a small area before you use this mixture on it. Hydrogen peroxide can bleach some carpets.
