Instructions
Create a fun environment in which your cat can learn. Attach toys to its scratching post or other objects that you want your cat to use, such as the litter box. If your cat is interested in being on your bed or some other piece of furniture, create a different and exciting environment in another location.
Reward proper behavior. If the cat has a good experience, it will repeat it. Offer your cat treats and vocal praise. Pet your cat when it has done something positive.
Play interactively and bond with your cat by spending time with it. Toys and games that allow it to see you as a fun and trustworthy friend will advance its training. A play tunnel, a treat maze or a toy at the end of a string or stick can bring joy and peace to both you and your cat.
Learn your cat's body language. Every cat is different, but your cat will let you know if it is anxious, fearful, or feeling affectionate. Knowing these signals will help you understand your cat.
How to Get a Cat to Behave
Cats are complex, mysterious creatures that intrigue and enthrall us with their charm and calming demeanor. Cats have been domesticated for more than 10,000 years, yet training a cat to behave is still a challenge. But with positive reinforcement and consistency, your cat can learn that behaving can be rewarding and pleasurable. Regardless of your cat's age, you can teach it to behave.
