Medical Problems
-
There are some medical problems that could cause frequent urination in cats. These problems include diabetes, kidney or liver disease and FLUTD. If your cat suddenly starts urinating inappropriately, the first thing you should do is see the veterinarian. Once these serious medical problems are ruled out you can address some other behavior issues.
Anxiety
-
Anxiety and stress can cause cats to act out by urinating inappropriately. Any changes to a cat's routine such as moving, a new child or pet, or a neighborhood pet in your yard can cause anxiety. The best thing you can do for your cat is to understand what is causing the stress and either eliminate it or help your cat overcome it. Retraining your cat may not be easy, so you may have to seek the advice of your veterinarian.
Declawing
-
Declawing is another stress inflicted on cats. Once your cat has been declawed its paws will be very sore. Rubbing its paws in the litter might hurt, leading it to find other places in the house to urinate. You can correct this problem by finding a softer litter that will not hurt its paws.
Litter Box Location
-
Cats can be very fussy. The box may be located too close to its food, too close to another pet or in a room it doesn't like going into. Simply moving the litter box could solve the problem.

Cats Urinating Inappropriately
There are a variety of different reasons why a cat would start urinating inappropriately. Although it could be a symptom of a medical problem that should be addressed by your veterinarian it could just as easily be your cat's way of acting out. Any changes to a cat's routine can cause these behavioral issues.
