How to Repel Cats From Plastic Christmas Trees

Some cats are very curious and get into mischief by exploring things they shouldn't. This happens around the holidays when human owners display new items in the home such as plastic Christmas trees. These trees offer branches for climbing and hiding spaces under a tree. A few cats won't be able to resist, so their owners need to find ways to repel the cat from the trees. Fortunately, there are a few simple ways to keep cats from plastic trees.

Fill a spray bottle with tap water and keep it near the tree. When the cat approaches the tree, spray the cat with the water. Cats hate water and will quickly run away after you spray them. You need to do this on a consistent basis to train the cat to stay away from the tree.

Fill another small spray bottle with equal parts vinegar and water. Spray the base and bottom branches of the tree. Vinegar is a great cat repellant because cats hate the smell. Because vinegar and water evaporate, you need to spray the plastic trees every few days.

Soak a sponge or old washcloth in vinegar. Place the sponge or washcloth near the base of the tree. This method also deters cats from the tree. This method may be more suitable if you have electric lights on the Christmas tree and don't want to spray any liquid on the tree. Again, replace the sponge or washcloth every few days after the vinegar evaporates.
