Instructions
Vaccinate your kitten properly. Kittens need to have their vaccinations expertly timed. A kitten's immune system doesn't fully mature until adulthood, so the vaccination schedule is spread out over time to be effective.
Whether your kittens and cats are housed primarily indoors or out, heartworms and intestinal parasites may be problems; use monthly preventives.
Train your kitten to use the bathroom properly. Young felines can be trained to use a litter box or a toilet.
Begin to litter-box train after four weeks of age. Place your kitten into an appropriately sized box after each meal. Gently rub its paws into the litter in a scratching motion. This exercise encourages the kitten to associate the box with using the bathroom.
Train your kitten to use the toilet after it's become familiar with the litter box. Slowly move the box closer and closer to the toilet. Eventually begin to elevate the box to toilet height incrementally using newspapers. Pour litter into a metal bowl you place over the toilet. Over time, remove the litter from this bowl, and then the bowl itself.
Socialize your kitten. Cuddle and embrace it often, getting it used to your touch. Hold your kitten at least once daily and speak to it in soft, affectionate tones. Begin now to firmly yet gently correct and discourage biting and clawing. If not addressed, much more painful nipping and biting may prevent it from being a good companion when it's an adult.
Feed your cat appropriately. Tailor the exact formula and recipe to your kitten or cat's current needs; young felines have different nutritional demands than older cats, for example. Ensure that the food is primarily made up of animal protein; carbohydrates should be kept to a minimum. Provide your cat with ample drinking water, regularly changed and cooled.
Entertain your feline. Scratchers, catnip, vividly colored toys that move and the occasional treat are ideal ways to ensure your cat's mental well-being.
