Instructions

    • 1

Use garbage cans with tight fitting lids.

    • 2

Place the garbage can in an area the cat can't reach. Options include placing the garbage under the sink or in a cabinet that has closed doors.

    • 3

Fill a spray bottle with equal parts white distilled vinegar and water. Spray the exterior of the garbage can. Cats are sensitive to smells and vinegar is a good, natural cat repellent. Other options include soaking a sponge, cloth or paper towel with white distilled vinegar and placing it near the garbage can. When the vinegar evaporates, spray more on the can or fill a sponge with the vinegar as needed.

    • 4

Place a brick or heavy object in the bottom of the garbage can if your cat has a habit of tipping over the can.
