Instructions
Do not ignore your cat. Whether your cat is yowling because it is hungry, thirsty, sick or wants attention, there is a specific reason for its behavior -- and ignoring the problem could put your pet's health at risk.
Assess the situation. If there is an obvious problem, assist your cat. If the problem is health related, call or visit your vet immediately. However, if you cannot determine an emergency, walk away.
Do not give in. If your cat is yowling because it is hungry, lonely or just seeking attention, do not give in to its request until your cat is quiet and has remained so for a while. Immediately giving in to your cat's needs when it is yowling will be interpreted as a reward and will only serve to encourage the behavior.
Stick with it. Know that your cat's behavior will likely get worse before it gets better. When you do not immediately give in to your cat's yowling, it may yowl louder. However, when your cat realizes that yowling is no longer yielding the desired results, it will eventually give up.
How to Stop Your Cat From Yowling
It may start when you are trying to go to bed, in the middle of the night, or perhaps when you are relaxing on the couch: the relentless, cringe-worthy yowl that erupts from your cat. This exasperating problem leaves many cat owners at wit's end. However, actions can be taken to curb this behavior and return your home to a peaceful environment.
