Funny Cat Tricks

Dogs aren't the only pets you can teach a few funny tricks to; instead, you can teach your cat to do more than purr or meow. Show her how to entertain you or any guests you have over. Amaze everyone with how advanced and funny your cat is and enjoy the laughs you'll get out of watching your cat attempting the tricks. Be patient with your cat, however, as it may take her a week or more to learn the tricks.
  1. Waving Cat Trick

    • Inspired a laugh from your neighbor when he walks by and sees your cat waving at him. To teach your cat to wave, you'll need a couple of treats and lots of patience. Take the treat and hold it in front of your cat's nose, but make sure it's out of his reach. Move the treat back and forth in a waving motion with your hands, and repeat the word "wave." When your cat reaches for the treat, it should be appear as if he's waving. Once you're satisfied with cat's performance, reward him with the treat. Repeat this step until your cat has the wave trick perfected.

    Shaking Hands

    • Add a handshake to the list of funny tricks your cat can do. Sit your cat in front of you and touch her paw. Remember to say "shake" each time you touch her paw. Once your cat reacts by lifting his paw, shake it immediately. Reward your cat with a treat or verbal praise, such as "good job." Repeat this command the same time to ensure that your cat understands what you're trying to teach him.

    Playing Dead

    • Get your cat to play dead for your husband. Approach your cat when he's already lying down. Give him a treat while he's in the lying position. Repeat the words "play dead" each time you give your cat the treat. Remember that your cat may remember this trick today and forget tomorrow. Each day, practice the trick with him. Keep practicing until your cat begins to do the trick on command.

    Toilet Trick

    • Watch your guests' faces when the bathroom toilet flushes, and out walks your cat. Begin this trick by literally tricking your cat. Move his litter box to one side of your toilet. Place newspapers or phone books underneath the litter box, and slowly increase their height daily; raise the box no more than 2 inches per day. Getting your cat to jump up on the toilet to get to his litter box is the main objective. Move the litter box into the toilet once your cat is familiar with the toilet. Make sure you buy a supportive metal bowl that fits the inside diameter of your toilet bowl. Once you move your cat's litter box inside the metal bowl, be prepared to share in a good laugh and your toilet.
