How to Harness a Cat Quickly With a Leash

If you want to take your cat for a walk or need to keep it close to you without holding it, a leash is an option that may help. Harness leashes are best for cats because collars that are pulled by leashes can injure the cat. Putting a harness on a cat will take some practice and may initially require the help of another person because your cat may not like it.

Instructions

    • 1

Detach the harness from the leash by unhooking the harness clasp from the end of the leash. Loosen all the straps on the harness. Set the harness next to your cat so he can smell and study it.

    • 2

Slide the harness over your cat's head in a fast but smooth motion. Use your hands to take each front leg and carefully place it through the front spaces of the harness.

    • 3

Adjust the straps until the harness is fitting to the cat's body. It shouldn't be so tight that it blocks your finger from easily sliding beneath it.

    • 4

Clip the leash to the clasp on the harness to walk the cat.
