Instructions
Write down the types of pet names you like. Draw a star next to your favorite names.
Say each name out loud to see how it sounds. You will say the name many times. This ensures that it sounds okay. It also helps avoid pronunciation problems. Have other members of the household say the name.
Cross out any names that you do not love. Continue the process of elimination until you reach one name.
Call the animal by its name as much as possible to help the pet learn its name. Use a calm tone so the animal doesn't think it's in trouble.
Call the veterinarian's office and tell them the name of the animal. Spell the name for them. Register the pet with the county, if required.
How to Name a Kitten & a Puppy
One of the first things you should do when you obtain a new puppy or kitten is name it. Some pet owners use traditional pet names such as Spot, Socks or Fluffy. Others name the pet after its appearance, such as Stripes, Fatty or Snowball. Others use names from movies, television, people, books and other media outlets. Christen your pet with its new name within three days of bringing it home. Not only will naming the pet aid in training, but it will feel more like a member of the family.
