How to Stop Cats From Jumping on Cabinets

Cats often explore the tops of cabinets. The feline might smell food, but its naturally curious nature might lead it to simply investigate its surroundings. Cats sometimes leap on counters as a temporary escape from other pets or children. The offending behavior will continue until steps are taken to recondition the cat's responses.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut plastic carpet runners with nubs on the underside. Cut the runners into pieces that fit the top of your cabinets. Cut enough pieces to cover all open surfaces.

    • 2

Place the pieces of runners upside down -- with the nubs turned upward -- on the tops of the cabinets. Tape the runners at the edges to keep them in place.

    • 3

Leave the runners in place for two weeks before completely removing. If your cat jumps on the surface, it will likely jump down quickly because of the unpleasant feeling under its paws.
