How to Protect My Cat From Chewing Electrical Wires

Cats are notorious for chewing and scratching both furniture and electrical cords. With furniture, the damage incurred will only be to the object, but when a cat chews on cords, it risks hurting itself temporarily or permanently. Simple solutions to this problem can be found around your home or purchased at the local hardware store. These simple, cost-effective measures can help your cat avoid accidents and injuries within the home.

Instructions

    • 1

Rub the cords with lemon juice, nail biting nail polish and/or cayenne pepper. This will turn your cat off the taste of the cords.

    • 2

Place gaffer's tape over the exposed wire to secure it to a surface and out of your cat's way.

    • 3

Place cords behind furniture or electronics so that they cannot be easily spotted by your cat.

    • 4

Gather your wires together with a safety cable to keep your cords in a bundle, making it more difficult for a cat to get to them. You can also wrap them with double sided tape, which will turn your cat off the wires.

    • 5

Duct tape or staple your cords to the wall so your cat cannot easily access them.
