Things You'll Need
- Cat carrier
- Cat treats
- Cat food bowl
- Cat food
- Cat toys
- Blanket
Instructions
Place your cat's carrier on the ground, a few inches behind its food bowl. If the animal is hesitant to go near the carrier (perhaps as a result of previous unpleasant experiences), increase the distance between the bowl and the carrier.
Move the food bowl a little closer to the carrier with each feeding. After getting the bowl as close to the carrier as possible, place the bowl right inside the entrance of the carrier, along with a couple of treats. By gradually introducing your cat to the carrier in this manner, you lead the animal to develop positive associations with the crate and gradually become more comfortable.
Introduce your cat to the vehicle. Before ever embarking on an actual car ride, bring the animal into the car, along with some cat treats and toys, and spend a few minutes bonding. Do this for a few minutes every day, and when the cat becomes noticeably comfortable, turn on the engine and continue to bond with the cat until it becomes comfortable.
Place some treats and a few cat toys inside the carrier and gently guide your cat inside. For added comfort, line the floor of the carrier with a soft blanket or pillow. Place the carrier inside your vehicle and begin your ride.
