How to Keep a Cat From Using Your Flower Box As a Litterbox

Your cat can be quite adorable and well trained, but occasionally your cat will disobey and not use the litter box. A common area the cat will go to the bathroom is in the garden or a flower box. Cat feces isn't good for your flowers, as it is too highly concentrated with nitrogen. You don't want to run the risk of sticking your hand in cat feces when you're gardening, especially if the flower box is indoors, so the cat needs to know the litter box is the only acceptable place to go indoors.

Instructions

Dig a hole in the center of your flower box. Bury a small jar so the top is flush with the soil. Fill it half full of water and half full of ammonia. Cats don't like the smell of ammonia.

    • 2

Put various citrus fruit peelings on the soil between the flowers. Orange, lemon and lime peels give off a strong citrus smell that cats don't like.

    • 3

Cover the ground between your flowers with eggshells, then place pine cones on top of them. Cats don't like to walk on eggshells, and the pine cones act as an obstacle so the cats can't find an area to dig up and go to the bathroom.

Spray the dog and cat repellent around the perimeter of the flower box every week to keep your cat out of it.
