The Best Cat Repellents

Cats are naturally curious. Felines can sometimes get themselves into unwanted places either indoors or outdoors. Their waste products, which not only has a strong odor but can be harmful to humans, can wreak havoc on households. Cats can also cause damage to furniture and other things around the house with their claws. Repellents are a way of deterring furry creatures from getting into places they are not wanted.
  1. Aerosol Repellent

    • Aerosol spray repellent is effective in warding off felines from prohibited areas since it can be used indoors or outside. Sprays are easy to use and can be purchased at most pet stores. Aersols deter cats for up to 12 hours when used daily.

    Electronic Devices

    • Electronic devices provide a way to repel cats without having to be applied constantly. The device can be used indoors or outdoors. Put the unit in front of the area you want to protect. Electronic repellents use a high-pitched sound that is audible only to cats. The sound, triggered by a motion sensor, scares the animals off. Electronic repellents include the CatScram and CatStop.

    Plants

    • For an outside deterrent, grow certain plants that emit an odor that cats do not like. The garden plant coleus canina, often referred to as the ̶0;scardey cat̶1; plant, contains blue flowers that humans have trouble smelling. This annual can be kept indoors during the winter and replanted in the spring to deter cats from using your yard as a litterbox.
