Things You'll Need
- Collar
- Bell
- Another cat
- CatBib
Instructions
Attach a bell to your cat's collar. This will alert your cat's prey to danger and make it difficult for your cat to pursue the prey. Eventually your cat should give up on hunting, thus preventing any dead animals from being left in your home.
Keep your cat indoors. If this is not something you are willing to do then try to keep your cat inside after dusk to prevent him from killing mice, rabbits, rats and bats. If you want to prevent your cat from killing birds keep him inside during the day.
Take down bird bird feeders or bird baths. These items tempt your cat by encouraging birds to enter your yard, making them easy pickings.
Feed your cat the correct amount directed on the bag of cat food for his size and ideal weight. Being full and satisfied will discourage your cat from hunting in the first place.
Adopt another cat. This will discourage your cat from leaving you dead animals because his hunting instincts will be fulfilled by playing with the other cat.
Purchase a pounce protector, otherwise known as a CatBib, and attach it to your cat's collar. A CatBib is a colored neoprene bib that hangs in front of a cat's chest and interferes with his paws as he strikes at prey. The bright color can also notify birds of a cat's presence.
