How to Remove Pet Odor From a Sofa With Non-Removable Cushions

When you have non-removable cushions on your sofa, it can be difficult to get odor out of them, especially when a pet has soiled the area. It may not be possible to get all of the odor and stain, depending on how deep the moisture has gone into the cushion, but you can draw most of the stain and smell up from the sofa with a few basic cleaning tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper towels
  • Enzymatic cleaner
  • Carpet cleaning solution
  • Fabric brush

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the stain from the sofa if there is one. Spray the spot with a color-safe spot carpet cleaning solution, and scrub the surface with a fabric brush. Spray the spot with an enzymatic cleaner if the stain is urine or feces. This will help discourage the pet from soiling that cushion again. Many pet enzyme cleaners also have built-in deodorizing agents.

Scrub the cleaner into the stain thoroughly with your fabric brush. Dab away the excess moisture and soap with a damp cloth.

    • 3

Wet three layers of paper towels, and place them over the wet spot. Use your fingers to press the towels into the fabric for a few minutes.

    • 4

Allow the paper towels to absorb the moisture and dry overnight (or for six to eight hours). Since you can't remove the cushions to wash or soak them, this is the best way to pull up the odor-causing moisture.

    • 5

Remove the paper towels; you may see that what was left of the stain has transferred to the towels.

    • 6

Sprinkle the area with baking soda, and allow it to sit for at least three hours. Baking soda absorbs and neutralizes odor. Vacuum the powder up from the couch with a hand vac.

Spritz the surface with an odor-neutralizing spray to kill any remaining odor and give the area a fresh, clean scent.
