Instructions

  1. Creating your cover

    • 1

Measure the outside of the crib top. Add 8 inches to each side. The total is the amount of mosquite netting (or muslin) you need.

    • 2

Buy enough half-inch-wide elastic to fit around the top of the crib with a one-inch overlap on each side.

    • 3

Lay the netting on a flat surface. Position the elastic 1 inch from the inside edge of the netting and secure it with straight pins.
Fold 3 inches of the the edge of the netting under and around the elastic, and secure it with pins.
Sew a seam along the top and bottom of the elastic so that the netting is securely attached. Remove the pins.

    • 4

Pin the ends of the elastic together and test the fit by stretching the cover over the top of the crib. If the fit is too loose, pin the ends of elastic closer together.
When the cover fits tightly, sew the ends of the elastic together. Close any gap in the netting by hand stitching.

For more active babies, reinforce the elastic with sturdy cords. These can be tied at all four corners to keep babies from dislodging the cover.
