Things You'll Need
- Feliway Spray or Feliway Diffuser
Instructions
Confirm that your cat's stress or behavioral issues are not due to a medical problem. Feliway should not be used in lieu of a checkup by an animal health care practitioner and will not solve medical problems, even if it alleviates symptoms or reduces stress.
Clean any surfaces where a cat has inappropriately eliminated or sprayed, using a mild natural cleanser that does not have a strong scent. Do not use enzymes or other active agents that may deactivate Feliway.
Decide whether Feliway Spray or Feliway Diffuser is appropriate for your situation and your environment. The spray is best for addressing behavior or stress that occurs in a specific location, such as scratching on a specific couch or stress when in a carrier, while the diffuser is best for general stress and behavior that occurs throughout a cat's environment.
To apply Feliway Spray, shake the bottle then spray it in the specific areas where your cat's behavior occurs or where it spends the most time. You can spray the surfaces on which the cat lies and spray vertical surfaces at the height where your cat's nose would be.
Wait at least 15 minutes after using Feliway Spray before allowing any cats back into the sprayed area. They may be sensitive to the evaporating alcohol.
Continue spraying each area daily for at least 30 days, 45 days if you have more than one cat.
Use the diffuser by removing the vial cap, tightening the diffuser onto the vial and plugging in the unit.
Leave the diffuser plugged in and active for at least 28 days. It can be refilled, if needed.
