How to Keep Cats Away From Furniture

Cats and furniture are two things that should remain indoors, but your pets should not be allowed to climb, sit or scratch the furniture. There are several methods to use to keep your cats off your sofa and easy chair. Of all these methods, the first works the best, but the key to teaching your cat to stay away from the furniture is to remain vigilant and correct him as often as possible until he learns to stay off.

Instructions

    • 1

Watch your cat while he is in the room with the furniture. Have the spray bottle or water gun at hand and filled.

    • 2

Spray the cat with water from the spray bottle or water gun for the easiest and most effective way to keep him off the furniture.

    • 3

Blow up the balloons and tie them just before you leave the house. This method does not require you to watch your cat the entire time, but you will not want to be in the house to hear the noise when your cat starts to pop the balloons when he jumps on the furniture.

    • 4

Tape the balloons to the furniture arms, seat and back. These are the places your cat is most likely to jump up to. When your cat jumps up, his claws will pop the balloons. The sound will frighten him away from your furniture.

Instead of balloons, if you have a wooden floor under your furniture, line the furniture with aluminum pans. When your cat jumps on it, he will knock the pans to the ground. The sound will scare him off.
