  1. How to Teach a Cat or Dog to Stay Away From a Screen Door

    • 1

Purchase a water bottle that sprays. These are inexpensive at dollar stores. Keep the water bottle filled at all times and make sure it's on a counter or table near the screen door.

    • 2

Spray your cat or dog with water when he/she approaches the screen door. Spray the water and say "no" in a firm, commanding voice. Follow this step every time your cat or dog goes near the door. It will only work if you are consistent.

    • 3

When your cat or dog leaves the screen door, praise them by saying "good boy/girl." Every so often, you can give them a treat for obeying.
