Instructions
Take the time to bond with your kitten. Gently hold it in your lap and pet it. Cuddle up with it in the evening when you are watching television or reading a good book.
Give your kitten space. When it doesn't want to cuddle, don't hold on to it. When it doesn't want to play, leave it alone.
Kittens have a lot of energy and need a lot of play time or else they will not relax. Play with your cat every day. You can wrestle with your kitten, or have it chase a piece of string around. Many cats also love to play hide and seek.
Train the cat not to scratch the furniture. When it starts scratching the furniture, say "no" loudly and firmly and take it over to its scratching post. Do this a few times and the cat will get the idea.
Teach your cat not to climb up on the furniture. Say "no" when the cat tries to climb up, and place it firmly on the floor. If it keeps climbing up the furniture, give it a "time out" in a bathroom or closet.
When all else fails, use the spray bottle. Cats hate being sprayed with water, so a spray bottle is a great way to discipline when a verbal command alone does not work.
