Instructions
Trim your kitten's nails. Although this won̵7;t prevent a kitten from making a leap onto the window sill, it will discourage them from climbing there using furniture or curtains. Use a pair of human or animal nail clippers and gently clip off the tip of each nail, avoiding the white center of the nail, called the quick, which bleeds when cut.
Cap your kitten's nails in addition to clipping them; this will further discourage climbing and perching. Purchase kitten-sized nail caps and test the caps on the kitten's nails by sliding one over the nail; if it fits snug, it is the right size. Fasten the nails onto the kitten following the manufacturer's directions.
Redirect your kitten's need to climb and perch by giving them other things to play on. Indoor cat trees or condos give kittens a great place to exercise and indulge in their natural urges to perch.
Give your kitten warm areas to nest. Some kittens like to sit in windows to bask in the warmth of the sun. Fill this need by placing heated cat beds around the room for your kitten to lay in when it needs some warmth.
Discourage your kitten from wanting to be in the window by taking away the view. Close the blinds or curtains so that the kitten can̵7;t see outside.
Set cat training traps on the window sill to scare the kitten when it lands on the window sill. These traps are similar to upside-down mouse traps that leap in the air when triggered to scare cats and kittens away. These traps won̵7;t harm your kitten but will discourage them from wanting to be in the window.
Use an air-compressor trap in the window to shoo your kitten away. These traps are motion-activated and send a blast of air at the kitten when it enters the trap area. After repeated use, kittens eventually learn to avoid the area.
