Instructions
Give your cat a variety of toys to play with to prevent boredom. Toys that are stuffed with catnip or small, round ones with bells inside that the cat can bat around will enrich your cat's life. Provide a cat condo for your cat to climb that has cubby holes for it to hide in; these items help keep your cat busy.
Spay or neuter your cat to stop loud meowing. A female cat in heat or a male who needs to mate will meow repeatedly to encourage you to let it out. Having your cat spayed or neutered eliminates the cat's sexual urges, so it will remain calmer when you close it out of your room or leave your home.
Play classical music for your cat to keep it calm once you close a door. Music helps cats suffering from separation anxiety relax. Keep a compact disc playing on a repeating loop or leave on a classical radio station for it during the day when you are not at home.
Provide your cat with an interesting perch on a window to sit in and place a bird feeder directly outside the window. This gives your cat an interesting view with wild birds to watch and discourages it from sitting and meowing for your attention. Alternately, you can leave on a DVD of nature scenes featuring birds, squirrels or other wildlife for your cat to watch on your television on a repeating loop.
Hide dry cat kibble around your home. This gives your cat a way to hunt for its food and keeps it occupied so it will not sit and pine away for you by meowing. You can also give your cat a treat ball filled with food; these round toys have a hole in the top that dispenses dry kibble if your cat bats around the toy.
