How to Keep a Kitten Out of a Room

Welcoming a new kitten into your home is a nice way of adding a new member to your family. Allowing the kitten to adjust to the world around it is essential for it to feel comfortable in your home while becoming familiar with the new surroundings. Keeping your kitten out of various rooms in your home is possible with persistence and patience while teaching your cat proper behavior.

Instructions

    • 1

Distract your kitten when he is wandering into a room you have declared off limits by firmly saying "No" or "Hey" to draw attention to you. Use a toy to get its attention, and draw it away from the room. Throw a light object (such as a paper ball or crinkled newspaper) in the area of your kitten to create an additional distraction from the off-limits territory in your home.

    • 2

Move the kitten in another direction using your hands -- without lifting the kitten up -- after saying "No" to help teach it the boundaries in your home, as well as the term "No" for any future behavior problems.

    • 3

Remove the kitten from any room it should not be in and quickly say "No" in a sharp tone (without raising your voice or scaring the kitten).
