How to Keep Feral Cats Out of Your Flower Bed

Feral cats can ruin a flowerbed. By urinating on the soil or digging up the flowers, feral cats cause damage in gardens. Feral cats are not lost pets. These cats were born in the wild and spend their lives outdoors, fending for themselves. Training these cats is not possible, but there are cat-repelling methods that work to keep feral cats out of the flowerbed.

Instructions

    • 1

Peel off the skins of several pieces of citrus fruit with a knife. Oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and limes are citrus fruits. Scatter the peels around and in the flowerbed. The citrus peels will not harm the soil or the flowers. The smell of the citrus is a cat deterrent. Cats don̵7;t like the smell of citrus.

    • 2

Plant lavender in the flowerbed. The scent of lavender offends feral cats and they will stay away.

    • 3

Place small pebbles all around the perimeter of the flowerbed. Cats find these pebbles uncomfortable to walk on. This prevents cats from entering the flowerbeds.

    • 4

Install motion detecting sprinklers. These sensors emit a spray of water when a cat sets it off. Place the sensors in places that the cats likes but out of the way of where people walk in the garden.

    • 5

Shout at the feral cats when you see them near the flowerbed. The noise startles the cats and they run away.

    • 6

Pour water into a spray bottle. Spray the cats with the water bottle when you see them in the flowerbed. Cats don̵7;t like water.
