Types of Short-Haired Gray Cats

Short-haired gray cats make adorable fuzzy friends for any home, depending on their personality. Some short-haired, gray cats love attention and snuggling while others like their space and quiet time. Many gray cats get along with children and other pets in the home while others do not. You will want to keep this in mind when picking a gray cat out at a shelter or pet store by asking the caretakers what each cat's personality is like.
  1. Chartreux Cats

    • Chartreux cats are domestic cats originally from France. These cats are muscular with long, fine boned limbs and short bluish-gray hair with fine stripes on their tails. Their hair is fine and soft and can resist water. If you're looking for a hunting cat for a farm or to help get mice out of your house, this would be the breed to get because they are known for their quick sharpness in catching small rodents and bugs. The personality of these cats is playful and loving, but they do tend to like their quiet time and space. Chartreux cats are good for homes with children and other pets because they are nonaggressive and love to bond. However, they do tend to favor a particular person over another at times.

    Russian Blue Cats

    • Russian Blue cats have gray-silver hair with blue tints and are originally from Russia. These cats are intelligent and love to observe and watch what is going on around them. They can learn how to do some tricks and love to be around their owners, but they tend to run away from strangers that come into their homes. Russian Blue cats have very fine, short hair that is silky, soft and smooth to the touch, and they have long bodies and short limbs. They tend to be smaller cats. This breed of cats like to play with other dogs, cats and animals in their home along with their cat toys. Most of them will approach their owners and rub their heads against them in a loving way when they sense their owners are sad or feeling down because they are sensitive to human emotions. Russian Blues are fantastic cats to own if you have mild allergies because they tend to have less dander.

    Korat Cats

    • Korat cats are gray-haired cats with a small, muscular build. They tend to be heavy to pick up and carry around, but they sure do love attention from their owners and are very loyal. All Korat cats have green eyes and heart-shaped heads. This cat breed originated in Thailand, and the cats are known over there as good luck cats. These cats are playful, curious and love getting into things they aren't suppose to, so it is best to give them different toys each week to help keep them entertained and out of your things. However, they do tend to like their space and not all of them like other pets in the home. Some Korat cats like being around children while others do not; keep that in mind if you're thinking about getting one.

    British Shorthair Cats

    • British Shorthair cats got their name because they were brought to Britain and interbred with wild native cats and Persian cats. They have thick grayish-blue hair that is super fine and soft. These cats have wide round eyes with gold, brown and copper colors in them. They tend to have chubby bodies with short legs and stubby paws but are strong and muscular. Their ears are round and far apart and their face has a slight pushed-in look. British Shorthair cats are laid back and love to be indoors laying around someplace warm. They do love playing with their toys but not with other pets or young children since they tend to keep more to themselves and like to be alone. These cats would be marvelous to have in a home that is quiet because they do not need a lot of attention.
