The specific origin of Russian Blues is not known, although some believe they originated out of the Archangel Isles in the 1860s. According to the Cat Fanciers' Association, "Rumor also has the Russian Blue as a descendant of the Royal Cat of the Russian Czars and as a favored pet of Queen Victoria."

Russian Blues have a dense double coat of fur. The coloring is a blue-gray with silver tips, which gives the fur a silvery sheen. They have large round, bright green eyes and their ears are set wide at the base and veer out to the sides.

Russian Blues have shy, gentle natures. They are a clean cat and very intelligent. Friendly with children and other pets, they'll run and hide when aggravated before hurting others.
