How to Identify a Chartreux Cat

Chartreux cats are said to have lived with the Carthusian monks in France. It is likely that these cats are named for the qualities of their fur. Chartreux cats are playful. They will play hard for a few minutes, rest for a few minutes and then repeat the cycle. Chartreux cats are not lap cats but will take to their family members wholeheartedly and follow them from room to room.

      Count the colors. You only have to count to one. Chartreux are single-colored cats that are any shade of blueish gray.

      Smile back. This breed is known for looking like it's smiling.

      Evaluate the facial features. Chartreux cats have rounded heads and narrow muzzles. There are small ledges at the eye level of their straight noses. The ears are high on the head and pointed.

      Look him in the eyes. The eyes of a Chartreux are rounded, with the corners curving slightly up and a gold or copper hue.

      Stretch your fingers. The thick double coat on these cats is treated best not when you brush it, but when you occasionally run your fingers through it.

      Turn on the television. These cats in very interested in what you are doing. They have been known to enjoy watching the television or computer. They will also try and participate by biting cords or stepping in the way.
