How do filoviruses look like?

Filoviruses are filamentous, enveloped, non-segmented, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA viruses. They appear under the electron microscope as long, slender, thread-like particles with a helical nucleocapsid. The nucleocapsid is surrounded by a protein matrix and an outer envelope that contains glycoprotein spikes. The spikes interact with cell surface receptors to allow the virus to enter the host cell. Filoviruses range in length from 80 to 1400 nm and in diameter from 80 to 100 nm.
