The Different Patterns & Colors of Ragdoll Cats

The ragdoll cat is a large breed that is known for being quiet, gentle and loving. When these cats are picked up, they typically go limp like a ragdoll, which is where their name comes from. Ragdolls make great companions and are not for those who want a talkative and rambunctious feline. The breed was first introduced in the 1960s. There are three different types of ragdoll cats that are identified by color patterns.
  1. Ragdoll Features

    • Ragdoll cats are known to be large, muscular and heavy, with wide chests and large hindquarters. An average adult male weighs about 12 to 20 pounds and females are generally a little lighter, weighing about 10 to 15 pounds. They grow slower than other breeds and do not fully mature until about 3 years of age. Ragdolls typically have medium-length fur and a bushy tail. The fur is soft and is sometimes compared to a rabbit's coat. This breed has distinctive large, oval-shaped blue eyes. Ragdoll cats have an sloped nose and large rounded ears.

    Mitted Ragdoll

    • Mitted ragdolls cats have color points on most of their body, except for their feet. The front and rear feet are all white, as though they are wearing mittens, which is where the name comes from. The white on the back legs does not extend any higher than the mid-thigh and wraps around the legs. Mitted color types include cream lynx point mitted, red point mitted, chocolate tortie lynx mitted, and blue point mitted.

    Color Point

    • The color on the face, tail and ears are referred to as points on ragdoll cats. Color point ragdolls are clearly distinguished from the rest of the body. The points are usually a little darker than the rest of the body, which is typically a cream color. Feet and legs are usually the same color as the points. Although the body is cream colored, the chest and chin may be slightly lighter in color than the rest of the body. Some of the color point types and colors include cream color point, chocolate color point, blue color point and seal color point.

    White Ragdolls

    • White ragdoll cats have distinctive color points on the face, tail and ears that are distinguished from the rest of the body. The face mask as an upside down white "V" shape. The legs, stomach and feet are white and the body is a cream color. Some white ragdolls have other white patterns on their bodies. The nose and foot pads of these ragdoll cats are usually pink.
